Erie Canal- Day 3- Fairport to Weedsport

Saw a working lock today

View 15 miles (plus 366) on the Erie Canal on brendagerber07's travel map.

It is 8:10 pm and we are back from supper and settled into our room at the Red Roof Inn Weedsport. Because I was an airhead when I was making the reservations for this trip, we ended up being at a different motel from everyone else. Thankfully it is only .3 miles away. This is why you check and double check the dates before you check the Book it button!
The riders from our van had to ride 5 miles to meet up with the others and we had a beautiful ride.

This part of the canal trail was more populated with other riders, walkers and dogwalkers too. There were several beautiful boats docked along our starting point. One of the first points of interest that we saw was an actual working lock. The water level changed 16 feet(I think) as the boat went through the lock. We stayed through until the boat was on the other side.

We rode to Palmyra for our first SAG stop. We passed a green bog-like section with many blue herons. I stopped to get this picture and show how green the water was.

When we got to Palmyra, we met our SAG at Muddy Waters Cafe. We took a few moments to walk into town and stopped into the Coverlet Museum. A coverlet is a woven blanket that would top beds and this features the largest coverlet collection in the USA. Also saw the quilt room here and a gorgeous button quilt. The mural here was on our walk.

Wynn drove the next leg of the SAG and I rode toward the back of the pack for this stretch so I could stop and get a few pics. We ended for a lunch stop in Lyons’s and ate our lunch by the canal shore. Since I was driving next, I walked a bit of the town to get pictures of some of the murals. Wynn and Jim were not sure exactly where the SAG stop was so they got a “police escort”. (Not really)
Here is a pic of the “toaster” and the police car in front. Wynn got a few pics of us pulling in to the park. I had a few pics from along the route here too.

Here are a few pics of the murals and sights around Lyons.

The little girl with the balloons was my favorite of the murals. Then it was my turn to drive and Wynn took a few pics along his ride. The 1772 Blockhouse was seen on this leg of the trip. I was glad to be sagging as this part was quite hilly and rough roads. (Even some grass paths.) not sure how the e-bike would have handled that.

So our day ended in the town of Weedsport. The group stayed at the Rodeway Inn. We ended our ride at 57 miles with 1,145 climbing feet. Gravel, grass and paved paths/roads were traveled and we finished Day 3. Pizza at Lunkenmeier Craft Brewery was the spot for supper. We ate outside and everyone sat around for awhile visiting and reliving the ride.

So the sun sets on another day and it is time to get caught up on our tennis and get to bed early.

Until tomorrow…
